About Punjabi Lexicography

 

Department of Punjabi Lexicography is a unit of School of Punjabi Studies. This Department was established in 1972, with the aim to prepare monolingual, bilingual, learner dictionaries of Punjabi language and its dialects also. This Department has been led by renowned faculty. Prof. Attar Singh, Prof. Balbir Singh Sandhu and Prof. O.P. Vasishta have played key role in the field of preparation of dictionaries in this Department. Though Prof. O.P. Vasishta has retired, even then, he has joined us in preparing the Punjabi-English Dictionary, which is now under print. In the past, this Department has completed a major project, namely, Punjabi Natak Alochna Shabadavali Kosh (Published by the Publication Bureau, Panjab University, Chandigarh).

This department is mainly focused on the following thrust areas:

Thrust Areas:

  1. Making of Monolingual, Bilingual and Learner's dictionaries in Punjabi.
  2. Special emphasis for making dictionaries in the area of Punjabi dialects.
  3. Preparing of dictionaries in the technical subjects.
